As of October 24, 2026, the answer is no: JKSV cannot run on the Nintendo Switch 2. This is the question new Switch 2 owners ask most, and it deserves a straight answer with the reasons, plus an honest look at the exploit news that makes people hope otherwise. JKSV remains a Nintendo Switch 1 tool, available from our download page for that console. Our maintained status page is JKSV on Switch 2: status, linked from the comparisons hub.
Why JKSV needs Switch 1 and Atmosphère
JKSV is homebrew: an unsigned program, JKSV.nro, that runs because a Switch 1 with custom firmware, normally Atmosphère, allows homebrew to run. It reads and writes the console’s save data with a level of access Nintendo does not offer to normal software. The Switch 2 has no equivalent CFW available, so there is nowhere for JKSV to run, no homebrew environment to launch it in, and no port that changes that. This is a platform limitation, not a missing update that might arrive next week.
The same applies to every Switch 1 save manager in this category. Anyone advertising a working ‘JKSV for Switch 2’ download today is not describing a real tool, and such files should be treated with strong suspicion.
What ns2jb is, and what it is not
On October 22, 2026, an exploit called ns2jb was publicly described for Switch 2. As of October 24, 2026, it is a tethered exploit: it depends on SmileBASIC 4.4.9 and firmware 23.0.1, and it must be run again after every reboot. It is an important research milestone, but it is not custom firmware, it does not provide a general homebrew environment for tools like JKSV, and there is no JKSV port built on it. Reporting that ‘Switch 2 is hacked, so JKSV works now’ skips every step that actually matters.
Exploit news also moves quickly and early claims are often revised. That is why this page and the status page carry explicit dates, and why you should be wary of undated pages making permanent-sounding claims in either direction.
What Switch 2 owners can do today
For saves on the Switch 2 itself, the official route is Nintendo Switch Online’s cloud saves, for supported games on a subscription, which is a different model from local file backups — see JKSV vs NSO cloud saves for how the two approaches differ. There is currently no equivalent of JKSV’s local export, editing and restore workflow for Switch 2 saves. If save control matters to your play, a Switch 1 with Atmosphère remains the machine where that control exists.
Keep your Switch 1 if you have one. Many players now run a two-console household: Switch 2 for new releases, Switch 1 for the back catalogue and for saves they want to back up, edit and move with JKSV.
What Switch 1 owners should do
Nothing changes for you. JKSV’s current release, tag 12/02/2025, runs on Switch 1 with Atmosphère 1.12.1, and its cloud backup, batch and editing workflows are unaffected by Switch 2 news. If anything, the arrival of a new console generation is the right moment to make the full backup this site keeps recommending, so a hardware transition never puts old saves at risk. The background on the two consoles’ tools is in JKSM vs JKSV.
As of October 24, 2026, that is the complete picture: no JKSV on Switch 2, a tethered exploit that is not CFW, and a fully working tool on Switch 1. We will update the status page when facts, not rumours, change.
Finally, a word about downloads you may encounter while searching this topic. Because interest in Switch 2 homebrew is intense, fake packages and misleading videos appear quickly after every exploit headline. The genuine JKSV is a single JKSV.nro file for Switch 1, distributed from the developer’s GitHub repository and linked from our download page, with a published SHA-256 you can verify. Anything claiming to be JKSV for Switch 2, whatever its file name, does not come from that source and deserves no trust.
